The proposals are based on two themes: European culture and nature. Swedes can also take part in the vote.
The cultural theme celebrates historical figures such as Maria Callas, Beethoven, Marie Curie, Cervantes, Leonardo da Vinci and Bertha von Suttner. The second theme shows European birds and rivers, with links to EU institutions.
More than 1,200 entries were reviewed before the finalists were selected. After the vote, the ECB will proceed with the technical work. The new banknotes are expected to enter use from the end of 2026 and will reflect Europe's cultural heritage and biodiversity.
