Europe is to become an AI continent, hopes the EU Commission, which is now launching an action plan to become world-leading in artificial intelligence.
"We are working towards a future where technological innovation drives industry and the public sector forward and provides concrete benefits for our citizens and companies through AI that can be trusted", writes Commissioner Henna Virkkunen in a press release.
The plan includes better access to data, simplifications and assistance to follow EU's AI rules and active work to attract researchers and experts to operate in the EU rather than elsewhere. Furthermore, they want to create five "AI gigafactories" to drive development. Interested parties are invited to respond by mid-June at the latest.
