The European Commission has decided to send hundreds of backup power plants to Ukraine, where more than a million households are reportedly without power as a result of Russian attacks.

447 generators are being taken from the EU's strategic electricity reserve and sent to Ukraine, according to a press release. They will primarily be used to maintain operations at hospitals and other emergency services.

During recent winters of the war, Russia has directed much of its attacks at Ukraine's electricity grid, leaving households without heat.

“The EU will not let Russia freeze Ukraine into submission and will continue to help Ukrainians get through this winter,” the dispatch states.
