Proposals for both higher and broader import duties on steel will come from the EU Commission on Tuesday next week, announces Industry Commissioner Stéphane Séjourné at a meeting in Brussels, according to the news agency AFP.
In the Commission's work schedule, the proposal is described as "management of the effects of global overcapacity on the EU's steel market".
Participants in Wednesday's meeting tell AFP that it is about measures to replace the current protective clauses that expire next year.
The EU has long been critical of, above all, China's actions on the global steel market.
