Behind Friday's decision lies the Georgian government's increasingly harsh crackdown on protesters, independent media, and the political opposition in the country.
"The Commission considers that the actions of the Georgian authorities undermine the principles on which visa liberalisation is based," it said in a press release.
In recent years, Georgia has made a complete turnaround in its foreign policy and has significantly slowed its rapprochement with the EU.
