The President of the European Commission did not mention the United States or President Donald Trump on the way to today's summit in Armenia as part of the so-called EPC cooperation. It is nevertheless clear that her words are a response to Trump's latest statements about new EU tariffs and the withdrawal of US troops.

"We will mainly discuss the topic of 'an independent Europe.' We must increase our military capacity so that we can defend ourselves," says von der Leyen, among other things.

The EPC brings together all countries in Europe except Russia, Belarus and the Vatican City. In Armenia, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will also participate as a specially invited guest.

Sweden, however, is not participating in today's meeting; neither are Denmark and the Netherlands, among others.
