The EU Commission is taking Sweden to court due to the preliminary income tax levied on companies from other EU countries that do not have an F-tax certificate.

The Commission believes that the requirement breaches the right to offer services freely within the EU.

Wednesday's announcement comes after an exchange of letters on the issue over several years.

In parallel, Sweden is also being taken to the EU court for not having introduced sufficient controls at sea.

"Sweden has not managed to address the identified and has not made notable progress in resolving them", the Commission believes in a press release.
