The Swede was arrested by Iranian authorities in June 2025. The judge participated "in the flawed legal process that led to the execution of a Swedish citizen in Iran in March," says Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) in a written comment to TT.
"This means that the person in question will be banned from entering the EU and that any assets here will be frozen," she continues.
The EU Council of Ministers decided on Friday to impose sanctions on a total of six people - five of them judges - for “serious human rights violations in Iran”.
“The death penalty is an inhumane punishment, which Sweden and the EU always oppose everywhere and regardless of circumstances,” says Malmer Stenergard.
