The sanctions, which target a total of seven people and organizations linked to settlers, were finalized at today's EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels.

"It was high time we moved from blocking to delivering. Extremism and violence have consequences," writes foreign affairs director Kaja Kallas on X.

The decision comes after Hungary, which had previously blocked many of the sanctions, changed its government.

"This is something that Sweden has been pushing for too long," says Malmer Stenergard on site in Brussels.

Sweden and France are also hoping for political support for increased tariffs on goods from the settlements. Sweden also wants to see sanctions against extremist Israeli ministers.
