EU ruling: No gin without alcohol

Alcohol-free gin cannot be sold as gin, the EU Court of Justice has ruled in a recent ruling.

"There is a clear prohibition in EU law on marketing and labelling such a drink as non-alcoholic gin," a press release from the court states.

The case involves a German organization that took a manufacturer to court for marketing an alcohol-free gin. However, according to EU law, gin needs to have an alcohol content of at least 37.5 percent, the EU court writes.
