EU: Right to compensation for cancelled flights as increased fuel prices not force majeure

Global air traffic will fall by two million seats in May due to rising jet fuel prices. But jet fuel prices do not constitute extraordinary circumstances, EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas clarifies in an interview with the Financial Times.

He acknowledges the situation is tense, but emphasizes that existing rules are sufficient for now.

The European Commission will present guidelines for airlines and travelers affected by the war in Iran this week.
