This is confirmed by the EU's public prosecutor's office Eppo, following reports in Le Monde that police raids had been planned in France, Spain, Italy and Belgium.
The investigation is directed at the now-disbanded EU parliamentary group Identity and Democracy (ID), which is suspected of having used EU funds improperly between 2019 and 2024.
The group brought together members from several European far-right parties, including the French National Rally, the Italian Lega and the German AfD.
National Assembly chairman Jordan Bardella, who leads the new far-right group PFE, has called the investigation a "harassment operation."
