A support package to help farmers will be presented before the summer, the new action plan announced on Tuesday.
"We will support European farmers so that they can buy the fertilizer they need for the next harvest season. In the long term, we are strengthening our domestic production and opening up the development of bio-based fertilizers," writes Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen in a press release.
The supply of fertilizer has been severely affected by the wars in Ukraine and around the Persian Gulf, resulting in sharply increased prices.
