The EU Commission wants to set up a maritime security center for the Black Sea and sees it as an embryo for monitoring a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

–It will be the EU's first warning bell in the Black Sea, increases knowledge about the area and will help protect important infrastructure such as offshore installations and underwater cables, says Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas at a press conference in Brussels.

The proposal is part of a new strategy for the Black Sea area where the EU hopes to build up better transport routes and increase cooperation on the energy side.
