The EU is preparing a 17th sanctions package against Russia – and hopes to coordinate it with the USA, according to Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to AFP.

We Europeans will follow this American (sanctions) initiative with a 17th package of sanctions and I promised yesterday (the American senator) Lindsey Graham that we would try to coordinate both the content and the timing of these two sanctions packages, says Barrot to AFP.

Graham has stated to Bloomberg that he has strong support in the Senate for a bill that would entail "tough" sanctions against Russia. The package would also include tariffs for countries that buy Russian oil, and other significant products if President Vladimir Putin does not initiate serious negotiations to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

The retaliation would, among other things, include 500-percent tariffs from countries that purchase, for example, Russian oil, according to a draft of the proposal that Bloomberg has taken part of.
