France must reclaim approximately 20 million kronor that has gone to unauthorized state aid to Ryanair, via the airport in Carcassonne.
The demand comes from the EU Commission after an examination of multi-million support to the airport in southern France between 2001 and 2011.
Most of the support, which has gone to the modernization of the airport, gets clearance from the EU. On the other hand, a failing grade is given to various agreements regarding marketing and other services that are considered to have given Ryanair an advantage compared to other companies.
The Commission emphasizes at the same time that it is not about fines, but just a way to restore balance.
