–The good news is that we are steadily approaching our 2030 goals. If member states fully implement their plans and other EU measures, we are on track to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 54 percent, says Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra at a press conference in Brussels.

In that case, they are only one percentage point away from the formal target of 55 percent.

At the same time, Hoekstra promises that the EU Commission will present its formal proposal for a 2040 climate goal before the summer – which, according to him, means before the vacation that most of the Commission has from the end of July.

The 2040 target is expected to be a reduction of emissions by 90 percent compared to the levels of 1990.
