The EU's Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic welcomes a presidential order from Donald Trump to implement a common set of rules for customs duties between the EU and the US, Sefcovic writes on X.

"It paves the way to get down tariffs on cars and parts to 15 percent”, he writes.

The latest message from the USA also secures important exceptions from the 15 percent, writes Sefcovic. ”By respecting commitments we can secure long-term successes on both sides”, writes Sefcovic.

It was in August that the EU and the USA in a joint statement agreed on the framework for their tariff agreement. According to the agreement, the USA may reduce the import tariffs for European car manufacturers to 15 percent, provided that the EU removes tariffs on American cars.

The USA's current tariffs on European vehicles are 27.5 percent.
