The threat from the terrorist movement IS in Syria still exists, warns EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The fall of the Assad regime brings new hope to the Syrian people. But the risk of Daesh (IS) coming back is great, especially in eastern Syria. We must not let it happen, says von der Leyen after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
She also emphasizes that Turkey's "legitimate security concerns" must be addressed.
At the same time, it is important that all Syrians can feel safe, including all minorities, says von der Leyen.
