More than 40 members of the European Parliament are calling on FIFA to reconsider its decision to open the tournament to all member associations, which could allow Russian participation.
In a letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, which the news site Politico has seen, they demand that Russia be kept out of all international competitions until the country begins peace talks with Ukraine, ceases hostilities and returns children they say have been abducted from Ukrainian territories.
Since the invasion in 2022, FIFA has banned Russia from competitions, but later allowed it to take part in youth tournaments.
