The government in China is decisively enabling Russia's warfare in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas said at Monday's foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg. Sanctions were launched there against Chinese companies considered to be contributing to it.
"We now also have verified reports that the Chinese military has trained Russian military personnel to fight in Ukraine," Kallas said.
A spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry responded at a press conference, saying the claim is not true and calling it a smear campaign.
There have been media reports about such soldier training in the past. An EU source told AFP that the training is taking place at several locations in China and involves "hundreds" of soldiers.
