The EU's member states have with a large majority said yes to relaxing their own emission regulations for cars and vans.
The car manufacturers will now get more time to meet the previous requirements regarding the production of emission-free cars. Otherwise, several major manufacturers would have risked billion kronor fines already this year.
Sweden, however, went against the tide and voted no when the decision was made at the ambassador level in Brussels on Wednesday.
"It is unacceptable to us that Swedish companies that have taken their responsibility and gone ahead in the climate transition are punished because other European companies cannot keep up", says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) to TT via SMS.
On Thursday, the EU Parliament is also expected to vote in favor of the same change.
