The EU Commission is reported to be backing down from plans for genuine cider to have to contain at least 50 percent fruit juice.

Information that the commission worked on establishing a minimum limit leaked out last winter and caused concern among Swedish large-scale producers who use significantly less fruit in their cider. The amount of sugar was also intended to be regulated.

Now, however, the government has received reassuring news in a letter from the EU Commission, reports SR Ekot.

– The Agricultural Commissioner (Christophe) Hansen is very much in favor of us not needing more regulations, but rather seeing to it that this sector gets more freedom to develop its operations, says Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren (KD) to SR.
