"Excellent phone call with Ulf Kristersson," Costa writes on X after Tuesday's discussion.
"We covered a lot today, including the EU's long-term budget and competitiveness," he writes, among other things.
The conversation comes ahead of next week's major EU summit in Brussels, where leaders will primarily discuss a new compromise proposal on the long-term budget developed by Ireland's presidency of the Council of the EU.
Before that, Costa has visited most EU countries. However, Sweden had to wait because of the uncertain situation before and after the parliamentary elections.
Sweden is among the countries calling for a significantly smaller budget than has been proposed so far.
