In a vote on Wednesday, Parliament's Budget Committee set its line ahead of upcoming negotiations on the EU's long-term budget for 2028-34.
The committee wants to increase the Commission's original proposal from last summer by ten percent, to 197.3 billion euros. In Swedish kronor, this corresponds to an additional 2,100 billion kronor.
The increase is primarily because Parliament wants repayments on the large loans taken out after the COVID-19 pandemic to be made outside the EU budget.
The full Parliament is expected to vote on its position on the budget in the last week of April. A final agreement with member states is not expected until next year.
