The Iranian people deserve freedom, dignity and the right to choose their own future, says von der Leyen in a debate in the European Parliament on the situation in Iran.
At the same time, she asserts that the EU continues to stand up for international law - something that has been questioned after she herself warned in a speech on Monday that the EU must adapt to a new world order.
Our unwavering commitment to supporting peace, the UN Charter and international law is as central today as it was when we were created, she now states before the European Parliament.
She also takes the opportunity to reject the idea of easing sanctions against Russia to bring down energy prices.
"It would be a strategic blunder. It would make us weaker and more vulnerable," says von der Leyen.
