Negotiations between EU countries and the EU Parliament over updated rules for air passenger rights in the event of delays and cancellations have been slow, to say the least.

Parliament is pushing for automatic payments for delays and to maintain the right to compensation after three hours. Member states, on the other hand, want to raise the limit to four hours - or drastically reduce the minimum compensation level from €250 to €83.

EU Parliament member Johan Danielsson (S) is concerned.

"I don't see it as a serious proposal. Hopefully it's a provocation to get a discussion started," he says ahead of Tuesday's continued negotiations.
