The EU's trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic will meet the US trade representative Jamieson Greer this week to try to resume the interrupted negotiations on reduced tariffs on exports of steel and aluminium.

The EU Commission has proposed that the tariffs be abolished or significantly reduced. The USA has not responded to the proposal, says Sefcovic in an interview with Bloomberg.

The most logical step would be to proceed with a tariff quota with low or no tariffs, says Sefcovic and continues:

It is too early to go into details since we have not received any response to this proposal so far, but we know that it is very important for our industry and therefore we put it on the table.

Sefcovic and Greer will meet in connection with the cooperation organization Asean's ministerial meeting in Kuala Lumpur at the end of October, where the EU Commissioner plans to raise the issue.
