According to the newspaper's sources, they are from the EU side prepared to accept a ten percent tariff increase during the time the talks continue. This agreement would in that case be in line with what the United Kingdom agreed with the USA earlier in May.

However, the agreements will differ, the EU will not have the same access to the American market as, for example, British steel and vehicle manufacturers, writes Financial Times.

The British agreement was better than this one. It is a surprise considering how long we have been negotiating, says a diplomat to FT.

Publicly, the EU has not wanted to comment in detail on the various leaked information from the past few days. The President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, says in a debate in the EU Parliament only that they continue to work "closely with the US administration" to reach an agreement.

– The message is clear: we stand firm on our principles, we defend our interests, we continue the work with good hope and prepare for all scenarios, says von der Leyen in Strasbourg.
