According to the EU and the Philippines, a "breakthrough" has been reached in negotiations on a free trade agreement, which according to the EU will remove 94 percent of all customs duties and tariffs on 97 percent of bilateral trade.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has spoken by phone with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and hopes to visit the country in 2027 to sign the agreement.
