The EU is doing as Sweden and is supporting the threatened closure of Radio Free Europe.

We are preparing a contract of 5.5 million euro, approximately 60 million kronor) to support the important work. It is a short-term emergency payment that provides a safety net for the independent journalists, says Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas after Tuesday's EU Foreign Ministers' meeting in Brussels.

Radio Free Europe, with its headquarters in Prague, is at risk of closure since the new US administration has withdrawn its funding. Last week, the government decided to give 20 million kronor to the company, among other things, so that Russian-speaking listeners both in and outside Russia can access independent news.

This is an important tool also from a security perspective, said Minister for Development Cooperation and Trade Benjamin Dousa (M) to TT.
