"We have succeeded in defending passengers' rights. The right to compensation after a three-hour delay remains, as do the compensation levels of 250–600 euros depending on the length of the journey," says Social Democrat MEP Johan Danielsson, who participated in the negotiations, in a comment to TT.

The agreement, which has been negotiated for over a decade, also means, among other things, that airlines are not allowed to charge for correcting a misspelling of a passenger's name in a booking.

The legal text needs to be approved by a so-called Conciliation Committee and formally adopted by the European Parliament before it comes into force.
