The Viscaria mine closed in 1997 but is scheduled to reopen. Its owners hope to reach full production in 2029 after receiving final permits last year.
Being on the EU list means, among other things, faster processes and more opportunities for EU support.
“We are using all the tools at our disposal to open mines, develop processing and recycling capacity, and secure our supply chains,” Industry Commissioner Stéphane Séjourné writes in a press release.
The list has been expanded by 47 new projects in 16 EU countries. It already includes 46 projects in the EU - including three in Sweden - and 13 outside the EU.
