There have been “many, many” drone attacks in the northern Tigray region, a resident told AFP. The conflict monitor ACLED says “several” drone attacks have targeted Eritrean military forces.
Eritrea has sent troops into Tigray, raising concerns that the escalation could lead to a wider war in East Africa. Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of entering the conflict on the rebels’ side.
Tigrayan forces have taken up arms against the central government in Addis Ababa again. During the 2020–2022 civil war, government forces were able to counter the rebels with Eritrean help. This time, however, the resistance has formed a broader alliance, and relations between the neighboring countries have rapidly deteriorated.
