Authorities in Ethiopia have accused Eritrea of “blatant aggression” in a letter to the UN Security Council, after Eritrea sent troops to the Ethiopian region of Tigray.
The Ethiopian army responded to the Eritrean troop movements by launching airstrikes on soldiers in the neighboring country.
Eritrea’s Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel responded to the Ethiopian accusations by accusing Ethiopia of waging an “unprovoked war of aggression” in a post on X.
The escalating fighting has raised fears that a wider war could break out in East Africa, where Ethiopian government forces are fighting Tigray rebels and Eritrea is accused of joining the conflict on the rebels’ side.
