"Preserving the world's historic cinemas is crucial to the future of filmmaking, and Bio Skandia is one of the finest I have had the pleasure of visiting," says Ethan Hawke in a press release.
Skandia opened in 1923 and has struggled financially in recent years, threatening its survival. Hawke became involved in the cinema's fate when he visited the 2023 Stockholm Film Festival and is the first American to join the cinema's honorary board.
Director and game creator Josef Fares is also now on the board, where Stellan Skarsgård and Tarik Saleh are already members.
