Knighton was allowed to compete in the Olympic Games in Paris last year after an American court found that he had unintentionally ingested the doping-classified substance Trenbolon.
Knighton stated that he must have ingested the substance when he ate meat at a restaurant – Trenbolon is often used in the cattle industry to promote muscle growth.
Since then, however, Wada, the international anti-doping organization, and AIU, the athletics federation's integrity unit, have appealed the decision to Cas to get Knighton suspended.
Cas has announced that a decision may come within a few weeks. It remains to be seen whether Knighton will be able to participate in the American athletics championships, which begin on July 31 in Eugene, Oregon, and which are also the US trials for the World Championship in Tokyo in September.
Knighton finished fourth in the 200 meters at both the Olympic Games 2021 and 2024. He also has a silver and a bronze in the World Championship on the same distance.
