A worrying message for Tre Kronor: star defenseman Erik Karlsson is injured and will be out of action for at least two weeks, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced.

The Swedish Olympic defenceman has a lower-body injury that will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the club says. There are only ten days left until the opening of the Olympics in Milano-Cortina.

Erik Karlsson himself believes there should be no danger to his participation in the Olympics.

"No, damn it. I'll be back in good time before we go to the Olympics," he tells Expressen.

As recently as Sunday's NHL game, Karlsson played just over 23 minutes when Pittsburgh faced Boston. That's when he was injured in the second period, he tells the newspaper.

"I managed to limp through the rest of the match."

Tre Kronor will play their first Olympic match against Italy on February 11th.
