The statement comes in connection with the US president saying that he does not want to extend the ceasefire with Iran.
"Erdogan emphasized the importance of making full use of diplomacy in the face of tensions between Iran and the United States," the Turkish presidential office said in a statement, which said the two leaders spoke by phone.
A 60-day deadline for the US and Iran to negotiate a peace settlement expired on Monday. On the same day, Trump said “no” when asked if he wanted to extend the deadline, which includes the ceasefire.
Turkey, which borders Iran, has repeatedly called for an end to the war.
