He continues to say that ”we know what we do” and everything is done ”for Turkey and for our future.”
The disarmament began on Friday in Iraqi Kurdistan with a symbolic ceremony where weapons were burned. It is a part of the guerrilla movement's transformation process to go from armed struggle to political struggle, which was announced two months ago.
The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was founded in 1978 as a Marxist party and took up arms in 1984 to achieve independence for the Kurds. The conflict has since then claimed over 40,000 lives.
