Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to visit Doha in Qatar on Wednesday. The Turkish president wants to buy 24 used Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the host country, reports Bloomberg, citing sources.

No agreement is yet clear, but discussions about technical details are ongoing, according to the sources.

NATO country Turkey has the world's second largest fleet of the American fighter jet F-16 and has never used other foreign fighter jet models.

An upgrade to new F-16 aircraft is not expected to be able to begin until 2030 and Turkey has expressed an interest in expanded defense cooperation with Europe.

In July, Turkey signed a preliminary agreement with the United Kingdom to buy 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
