The EU does not seem willing to accept Turkey as a member state and ultimately it is Europe that will be the “loser” from that decision, Erdogan says in the interview. He adds that Turkey has not completely closed the door to EU membership.
Turkey has been a candidate country for EU membership since 1999 and began negotiations with the Union in 2005, but there has been little progress in the process since then.
