Turkish forces are ending the military operation against the Kurdish PKK in northern Iraq and Syria, announces President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
We will very soon complete ... the operation in northern Iraq, said Erdogan and added that Kurdish forces are now "incapable of acting within our borders".
The security zone along the southern border with Syria will also be completed, according to Erdogan.
The military operation was launched by Turkey in April 2022 to secure the border with northern Iraq. Turkey then accused Kurdish separatists of attacking Turkish territory from there.
Since 2016, Turkey has also carried out ground operations to drive out Kurdish forces from border areas in northern Syria.
