Emails show that Thorbjørn Jagland had contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and discussed a family trip to his Caribbean island when Jagland was chairman of the Nobel Committee. Jagland has denied that the trip took place.

The Norwegian Economic Crime Authority states that it will investigate the released documents to see if the content can lead to an investigation into economic crime.

Will answer

Representatives for Jagland, who has been Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Norway, as well as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, stated earlier on Monday that he will give his view on the relationship with Epstein in writing "as soon as possible."

Diplomat and former minister Terje Rød-Larsen's dealings with Epstein are also to be investigated, the Economic Crime Agency writes. The former UN diplomat has, among other things, borrowed money from Epstein.

The children in Epstein's will

Rød-Larsen's wife Mona Juul is also in the Epstein documents. She is a diplomat and has served as ambassador to Israel and worked at the Norwegian delegation to the UN in New York. On Monday, she was stripped of her new duties as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq.

She will not work as ambassador until our questions have been answered, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide tells NRK.

The new documents released last week showed that Juul and Rød-Larsen had closer contact with Epstein than previously known. Among other things, it emerged that the couple had visited Epstein on his Caribbean island and that their two children were to receive $5 million, equivalent to 45 million kronor, each, according to Epstein's will.

According to NTB, the will was written two days before Epstein died, but the money has not been distributed.
