MTV Music, MTV Hits and music programs from the 80s and 90s will stop airing in several European countries in the coming months, sources at owner Paramount confirm to AFP.
The Buggles' music video "Video killed the radio star" was the first to be broadcast on MTV in 1981. This marked the beginning of a new era in music and popular culture.
But now the music channels are being phased out due to fierce competition from social media and online streaming.
The music programs will stop airing at the end of the year in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Australia and Brazil, according to media reports.
