It was the first time since the tragic incident - both Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva died in a car accident in Spain - that the two teams met.
Visiting Wolverhampton, where Diogo Jota had his breakthrough in the Premier League during his three years. Home team Liverpool, the club the Portuguese belonged to when he died and where he celebrated his greatest triumphs.
Together with the team's fans, the players paid tribute to Jota ahead of Saturday's league match at Anfield.
Two of Jota's three children, Dinis and Duarte, took to the pitch with the Liverpool players. His widow Rute Cardoso was also present at the stadium.
In the official match program, Liverpool coach Arne Slot shared his thoughts on what happened.
“Reflecting on everything that has happened in the last twelve months sets off an emotional rollercoaster,” says Slot, sending a special thought to Diogo Jota's family.
“I hope that this love that Diogo continues to contribute can be a comfort.”
