Emotional Mild: "Spits in my face"

Several people around IFK Göteborg have been subjected to threats, which have now been reported to the police. During the club's annual meeting, club manager Håkan Mild gave an emotional speech. Of course, football is both religion, politics, and emotionally driven. But much of what we have to endure is actually not okay, said Mild.

Over the weekend, Allsvenskan football club IFK Göteborg posted on their website that "our association is under attack".

"Direct and indirect threats and harassment have been directed at individuals in their work for IFK Göteborg, to prevent them from performing their duties", the club wrote and continued:

"Individuals and groups with violent capital have conducted an influence campaign together with persons holding high status within blue and white supporter circles."

"Spits in my face"

The club has filed a police report and during Thursday's annual meeting, club manager Håkan Mild explained why the association made the statement just before the meeting.

Many think we should have done it much earlier and to be honest, I should have done it 15 years ago when individuals come to training and spit in my face. I should have done it then, but we are trained to tolerate others taking liberties and calling us all sorts of things, said Håkan Mild with tears in his eyes, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

Mild told about a previous meeting with the supporter group Wisemen.

What was said at the meeting was one-way communication and no dialogue. I don't think we got a question. The message was crystal clear. I should resign. I should do it now if I want to keep my dignity.

New chairman elected

According to GP, there were 746 eligible members present at Eriksbergshallen and the only question Mild got from the audience was if any other supporter group than Wisemen had been threatening.

No. I can only speak for myself, but it has only been from them, replied Mild, according to Aftonbladet's live reporting from the annual meeting.

Towards the end of the meeting, a Wisemen member – according to media present – denied that the group had used threats and one-way communication at the meeting with, among others, Mild.

The annual meeting is reported to have passed quietly. Magnus Nilsson was elected as the new chairman after Richard Berkling, who resigned already in November last year. The annual meeting also approved the nomination committee's proposal for new election or re-election of a total of five board members.
