It started when she saw the thriller "Black Widow" from 1987, in which Debra Winger plays an FBI agent hunting a female serial killer.
It was incredibly interesting. I'm fascinated by contemporary femininity, by women who work in law enforcement, and by what might have happened in a woman's life that makes her murder again and again.
Female serial killer
In the new TV series, the psychological aspects are explored in more depth, she thinks.
Alice, the agent I play, and Catherine, the serial killer played by Lola Petticrew, are really two sides of the same coin. There are more similarities than differences between them. They are on a collision course with each other but realize that they both want to do justice, but in different ways.
Emmy Rossum made her breakthrough with leading roles in “The Phantom of the Opera” and the disaster film “The Day After Tomorrow.” In the TV series Shameless, she played the struggling older sister Fiona Gallagher, who tries her best to keep the siblings together in a dysfunctional working-class family in Chicago.
“Tough to deal with”
Before her role as an FBI agent, she had to build muscle and learn how to handle firearms.
But it was also important to understand what the job as an agent does to one's psyche, how one has to turn off one's emotions and toughen up.
The series' final episode leaves room for a continuation, and Emmy Rossum says she's not tired of television work, even though she left "Shameless" after nine seasons.
I did 110 episodes. When I left “Shameless,” I had the opportunity to start my own production company and develop my own projects. “Furious” is one of them.
