Almost nine minutes after Ebba Andersson, Ribom finished tenth in the Olympic 5,000m. Extra strong for a sprinter whose Olympic dream had been crushed beforehand.
She is still clearly upset that she never got to race the individual sprint.
The Olympics are highs and lows. It's incredibly nice to succeed, but it's also incredibly tough to see dreams you've worked for a very long time pass. And that's really how it was for me with this sprint, says a tearful Ribom.
A small consolation is perhaps the praise she still receives for stepping up to race the 5,000m when others on the team got sick and went home.
Great job by Emma. She has worked hard and wasn't selected for what she wanted. So she got to race the 5,000m that maybe wasn't the original plan, but she did great and finished in the top ten, says national team manager Anders Byström.
