The Danish author Emma Holten is awarded this year's Sara Danius Prize. She receives it for her essay book "Underskott" where she argues for the value of unpaid work mainly performed by women.
The Sara Danius Foundation has been awarding the prize since 2023. The first one went to author Vigdis Hjorth and last year's prize was awarded to artist Anna Odell.
Emma Holten is an author and lecturer. The book "Underskott" received great attention in Denmark when it was published in 2024 and has been translated into several languages, including Swedish.
The prize aims to highlight female pioneers who work in the spirit of Sara Danius and consists of 50,000 kronor and a work of art depicting Sara Danius. The jury includes, among others, author Sara Stridsberg and critic Malin Ullgren.
